The State of Kansas is Hiring a Staff Development Specialist Near Shawnee, KS

Kansas Neurological Institute

The Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI) is an intermediate care facility offering support to approximately 130 residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. KNI practices a person-centered philosophy to support our residents so they can have the quality of life they deserve by recognizing their individuality, honoring their choices, protecting and maintaining their health, helping to build and maintain their relationships with others, and making sure that they are included in every aspect of their lives; in their homes, in their jobs, and in the community.

KNI has 19 homes with direct support staff assisting with daily living activities in each home throughout four buildings and is located on a large campus, east of the VA hospital in Topeka. KNI is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.

About the Position:

Develops and conducts thorough hands on training programs for new and current KNI staff that includes: an introduction to developmental disabilities, safety and health procedures, lift and hygiene techniques, healthcare responsibilities, infection control procedures, risk managment procedures, privacy issues, Personalized Lifestyle Plans, food and sanitation procedures, other KNI policies and procedures, CPR, etc. They ensure trainings and training materials are designed to maintain and enhance KNI’s ability to achieve its mission. They also ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws.

Compensation/Other Information:

  • Hourly Pay: $21.13/hour (with a additional 24/7 State Facility differential of $1.50/hr for every hour worked)

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • One to two years of experience in developing informational or educational presentations. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency
  • CMA/CNA certified
  • Must be able to use and maintain equipment in a safe manner including but not limited to; computers with a wide array of software programs, telephone, copy machine, digital camera, audio/visual equipment, public address systems, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Adult or Secondary Education
  • Knowledge of support provided to people who experience significant cognitive and physical disabilities

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to pass a drug screen test
